Bad Girls of the 1950's: GWS 21/Hist 19: Getting Started

Getting Started: Finding Books

Finding Library Books

The Library Catalog is the primary tool for finding books, films, recordings, and other materials in the Bowdoin College Library. If you have a specific book in mind, search by Title or Author; if not, try Subject (assigned subject headings) or Keyword (a word that appears in the title or elsewhere).

Try Keyword:  Women and 1950s; or Subject: Women United States History 20th CenturyYou may want to browse virtually in the Bowdoin catalog: look for additional headings under “Subject,” or added "Tags" or "Similar Books" when you have a record on the screen. To broaden your search, or to find specific books not available at Bowdoin, use NExpress or the MaineCat Statewide Catalog to request items directly online.  Books from Bates or Colby usually arrive within two days; from other Maine or NExpress libraries, perhaps a few days longer.  Use Interlibrary Loan to request books not available in MaineCat or Nexpress, and to request any journal articles not available at Bowdoin.
