Welcome!
Welcome to the Libguide for Visual Arts.
The Art Library is located on the second floor of the VAC. The collection of monographs, exhibition catalogs and current journals are prime sources for the study of Visual Arts. The tabs at the top of this page will lead you to materials both on campus as well as on the internet, as you search for art that will be the genesis of your own work. Do not hesitate to contact the Art Librarian, Anne Haas at ahaas@bowdoin.edu.
Image Searching
For many art students, the search for images is the predominant need for study. Along with the many exhibition catalogs and monographs on artists and artistic periods housed in the library, there are a number of websites where images are visible and downloadable. ArtStor is one database which we subscribe to; there are also thousands of museum sites, as well as commercial sites. The tab labeled "Image Search/Web sites" will help you get started.
Bowdoin College Museum of Art
This is a link to the Bowdoin College Museum of Art, where you will find information about current exhibits, as well as links to digital images of some of the items in the Museum. The Museum encourages students in all disciplines to incorporate the study of the collections into their college experience. Try it out!
